Rights and Responsibilities of Clients

These rights and responsibilities can help create a positive and effective counselling experience for employees. It is important for both clients and counsellors to be aware of these aspects to ensure a productive therapeutic relationship.

Rights of Clients

1. Confidentiality: Clients have the right to expect that their personal information and counselling sessions will remain confidential, with exceptions for situations involving danger to self or others. Employers may require basic information such as if sessions are attended, the broad issue, sometimes your name. If you are unsure what is reported, please ask your therapist or admin.

2. Informed Consent: Clients should be provided with clear information about the counselling process, allowing them to make informed decisions.

3. Respect and Dignity: Clients have the right to be treated with respect, dignity, and without discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, or any other characteristic.

 4. Choice of Counsellor: Clients may have the right to choose their counsellor or request a change if they feel uncomfortable.

 5. Right to Withdraw: Clients can withdraw from counselling services at any time without facing penalties or losing access to other services.

 7. Feedback and Complaints: Clients can provide feedback and file complaints regarding their experience with the counselling service.

 

Responsibilities of Clients

 1. Active Participation: Clients are responsible for actively participating in the counselling process, including attending sessions, sharing goals, and engaging in discussions. A therapist cannot fix your issues. Ultimately the work done by you outside of sessions. The more you apply things discussed outside of sessions the more you will get out of our services. 

2. Honesty and Transparency: Clients should provide honest and accurate information to their counsellors to facilitate effective treatment.

 3. Respect for the Counsellor: Clients are expected to treat their counsellors with respect, including honouring appointment times and policies.

 4. Compliance with Agreements: Clients should adhere to any agreements made regarding treatment goals, session frequency, and other aspects of the counselling process.

 5. Self-Care: Clients are responsible for taking care of their mental and emotional health outside of counselling sessions, including following through on any suggested strategies or practices.

 6. Communication of Concerns: Clients should communicate any concerns or issues regarding the counselling process openly with their counsellor.

 7. Awareness of Limits: Clients should understand the limits of confidentiality and the circumstances under which information may need to be disclosed.
